Here is some wonderful information about Layton Elliott's musical career from his website:

Layton Elliott began playing the guitar in 1969 and wrote his first song in 1971. A native Washingtonian, Layton spent much time playing in garage bands, blues bands, country bands and Irish bands, and performs occasionally as a solo act in coffee houses and bars. He has a unique finger picking style that he developed on his own; he plays all instruments on his albums and arranges all his works. Layton spent two years studying Music Theory and Composition back in the seventies and is also a published poet (See The Collected Poems of Layton Elliott at He is often described as having "a way with words". Early influences included The Beatles, The Eagles, Eric Clapton, Jim Croce, Gordon Lightfoot, and Neil Young. Layton has a baritone voice and enjoys transposing and rearranging 60's and 70's songs to suite his range and style.
